The Happy Hisers at Morris Arboretum. - Philadelphia Family Photographer

This is another one of my favorite families! I am truely blessed to be able to work with some really awesome people. I have been Photographing the “Happy Hiser’s” since their eldest was born. I’ve seen them at least once a year since and every time they just bring me such joy, always with a smile even if things are tough, they just keep smiling. I adore that.

This Family session we photographed at Morris Arboretum, this was my first time there so I let the family be my guide. It was so gorgeous there I will definitly go back! Morris Arboretum happens to be a very special place for them and I was happy to follow them around while they played together. They really are the cutest. The kids had an absolute blast running about, splashing in the fountains and showing me their favorite little spots. If you haven’t taken the kids to experience this place I would definitely suggest it, I’ll be taking my little guy.

A funny thing happened halfway through this Session, I realized Dad was wearing his work shirt, and I laughed. Not for any other reason than it brought me an amazing amount of joy that he was wearing it. Every one of the sessions I photographed with them, Dad was wearing a blue Covington Building Shirt. I laughed half because I know them so well I didn’t even take a second look at dad, and half because he owns who he is and that is amazing to me. He always has one of these shirts on whenever I see him and I felt it was just so fitting for him to be wearing it for this session as well. I told him if he had wore anything else I probably wouldn’t of recognized him!

My goal as a Photographer is to photograph a family for who they are, I don’t think anyone should try to be something they aren’t. These images are on your walls, if you dress yourself in a way that people don’t recognize you what is the point? I want to capture each family and family member for the individuals they are. Mom did a great job coordinating everyone’s outfits, Little man even worse his favorite Lightening McQueen Shoes, he was so happy to show them off to me. This little lady is “Queeny” who hangs on my studio wall, so her prettiest pink tutu dress was absolutely perfect, because that’s her.

Sometimes I think a lot of stress can be created with the Question “What do we wear?” My answer is always “pick a set of colors and work within them, make sure everyone is comfortable and their individuality is expressed.” I think a lot of people have a vision that the perfect family photo is where everyone looks “perfect” and matching, and I have to disagree. I think the perfect family portrait is when everyone is represented for who they are and they are happy and comfortable in their own skin. I think the comfort to be able to create and capture the family connection is much more important than any designer duds ever will be.

If this session doesn’t convince you of that I don’t know what will. The “Happy Hisers” Have the most amazing family connection I’ve ever seen!

Family Maternity Photoshoot with a Toddler in Bucks County PA ~ Newtown PA Photographer

Mom and I had been planning this maternity session for a while, almost as soon as she found out she was pregnant, it was in the works. The first question all moms with a toddler ask me is “How will I get my toddler to cooperate?” . Well there is a secret in my industry, that secret is, we go with it. For the most part Toddlers don’t pose, they really just don’t care about our agenda of getting great portraits, and that’s ok.

You would never know that this little guy was more interested in exploring his surroundings than celebrating the new baby brother that is on the way. When we met at this Bucks County Park, he was ecstatic to explore a fun new spot. He wanted down to explore, not to be held and smile at the camera. So you know what I did? I went with it! We played games, we sang songs (never underestimate the power of Baby Shark folks) and I worked with what he was doing. I gave him plenty of breaks to get just some of mama and daddy and then brought him back in for another game.

Having your toddler photographed does not have to be scary. It’s all about finding their groove and showcasing their funny little personality.

I’ve photographed this family for a while now and I really can’t wait to meet their newest little family member in a few weeks. Make sure to check back for the images from their Newborn session happening very soon!

Oh and the last image, I feel like he is walking into this big brother thing like “I got this!”

The Motherhood Event { Bucks County and Montgomery County PA Family Photographer }

Mommy & Me, Bucks County Photographer, Mongomery County, Abington, Willow Grove, Child Photography This year will be my second Mother's Day with my son and a lot has already changed since this time last year. A year ago I was snuggling him up in my arms for hours a day. This year I'm lucky if I can catch the little runner for a quick hug before he wiggles right back out of my arms and continues on his way. He grew as fast as everyone said he would, but it still seems unbelievable. I'm thankful for the images I have created with him as he grew. My Favorites are the shots of him and I together, because I am always taking the pictures (obviously) I rarely get in them myself, yes I'm guilty of this too. Last June I did a Nursing shoot with a friend of mine and also got a couple with him on the beach in September. The pictures that aren't taken on my phone are such a blessing to me. The clarity, color, and depth of an image taken with a real camera by a professional is an undeniable gift. I'm so happy that my calling in life was to create images to capture these quick little moments in the lives of others. These images are just glorious in print, something that phone pics rarely get made into.

It's time to upgrade from those selfies ladies. It's time to invest in a beautiful portrait of you and your child(ren). I know what you are thinking, "Once I loose the baby weight." Please stop thinking like that!  Now is the best time, trust me, those kids love you how you are, more than you know. They love your "mom bod", because you are their mom and none of that other stuff matters to them. There will always be an excuse, there will always be a reason for you to push it off. Here is a reason to stop finding reasons, they are growing so fast before you know it they will be off to college and then building a family of their own. Yes, that itty bitty baby in your arms will be off setting the world on fire with their brilliance one day. It's really going to go THAT fast. I've had enough clients return and I'm blown away by how quickly their kiddos have grow into teens.  Don't miss out on this age. Don't miss out on the tiny hands in yours and the snuggles that only mommy gets. You are their WORLD. Who really cares about a couple extra pounds when you put it in that perspective?

From now until the end of May I'm holding the Motherhood event. These are DEEPLY Discounted sessions. I'm so passionate about getting Mom in the picture with the kids that I'm giving you files and a session for the same price a normal session fee is.  The Motherhood Event is a special that can be booked any day between today and the end of May, so it's totally flexible to book according to your schedule. I will have a couple of my favorite spots to choose from so you can also choose the location! If I made this any easier I would dress you too. Oh wait, everyone who books will get a clothing guide to help you pick the best pieces for your shoot.

So what are you waiting for? If you don't hop on this someone else will and take your spot. There are always a couple popular times such as weekends and evenings that go first. I'm also a little limited on how many of these I can shoot, May is already a busy month and I only have so many covered baby sitting days. ( You know how that is right?)

Mommy and Me, Bucks County, Newtown PA, Holland PA, Willow Grove, Abington, Montgomery County PA, Photographer, Kids portraits,

It's been a while.

Hey there.    Yeah.    I've neglected this blog for a while now. Apparently raising a tiny human and running a business keeps a girl rather busy, and somethings fall by the wayside.

Lincoln will be 6 months next week. I have no idea where the last 174 days have gone, it's all a blur of diapers, sleepless nights, baby snuggles, studio sessions, editing, visits to the framer, and client meetings. Thankfully this blog, and maybe the laundry, are the only things that I really have dropped the ball on. My turn around time has been extended on wall art by a few days but otherwise we're pretty on track, I'm actually kind of proud of myself to be honest.

I do have to say I have been incredibly blessed with a really, really happy baby. Yeah, he has his moments, but don't we all? We've made it to month six, he loves baby food and still exclusively breastfeeds, this boy has quite the appetite . He hasn't quite mastered sitting up, actually he shows almost zero interest in sitting up. Lincoln, at 4 months old, did start showing interest in crawling and getting places, by 5 months he mastered scooting across my floor army crawl style. That was for sure something I wasn't at all prepared for. I thought I wouldn't have to start really baby proofing the house till at least Christmas. So now we are hopping over baby gates and trying to teach the cat how to get around them. Most of all I'm constantly running around picking up flip flops and shoes before the little speed racer can scoot himself over and chew them. Why do babies have such obsessions with eating such yucky things? Any who...

I know what you really came here for, to see pictures of my adorable child, obviously...

(Sarcasm. I'm so NOT that Mom, ok well maybe I am a little bit. )

Outdoor Family Sessions Bucks County PA

Print It's that time of year again, the week after the Fourth of July when summer seems to start coming to an end. Very soon we will see school supplies in Target and recent graduates on their way off to college. It seems Summer is ending earlier and earlier every year and pumpkin spice shows up before we know it.

Now is when I encourage families to get together for their annual family portraits, before the kids go off to college and the little ones start their busy school sport schedules.  The end of Summer is a beautiful time for a family portrait, the parks are bathed in lush green foliage, and  the botanical gardens are still blooming. The beautiful greens really look amazing hanging on the wall as a canvas or framed portrait and even in the dead of winter, remind you of the warm summer sunshine.

Family sessions include multiple shots of the family all together as well as smaller groups and individuals of the kids. Not only is the end of summer a great time for families but equally great for maternity portraits and annual portraits of just the kids. We are so lucky to live in beautiful Bucks County PA. We have access to fields of golden grasses and wild flowers as well as amazing botanical gardens and even urban areas. Bucks County has really great diversity when it comes to photo shoot locations.  Here are some images from some of my favorite outdoor summer sessions. Enjoy!

Baby D Newtown PA Newborn Photography

Baby D was such a little sweetheart for his session, he didn't give me any trouble at all. We even got a chance to grab some outdoor shots while he was at my Holland Studio. Outdoor Newborn portraits are really becoming a favorite of mine, with this new green space right out my back door, these shots are even more convenient than ever.

Miss C is 3 | Doylestown Birthday Photographer

I've been Photographing little Miss C since she was 9 months old. It's always amazing to me how quickly these little folks grow up, it's exciting that every time I get to see them they are always bigger and more mature. When we scheduled this session for her third birthday portraits, in the back of my mind I was hoping that my favorite field of wild flowers would be in bloom. These Virginia Blue Bells only bloom for around one week in the spring, with the crazy warm weather we had a few week earlier I couldn't be sure I would be able to promise the wild flowers ahead of time. We really got lucky and the whole field was in full bloom! I had such fun photographing this session and I'm really happy with the results!

Baby C on the way!

Generally after the big Christmas rush of November and December I don't often get to photograph sessions for New Years, this year was a little different. I've photographed this couple and their fur-baby Addie for their Christmas card photo for years now. This year we opted for a New Years card with a wonderful and exciting message inside. We decided that their New Years card would be the perfect opportunity to announce their BIG New Years resolutions, both Addie & Mom and Dad. 2016 is going to welcome a new bundle on joy into their lives and I couldn't be happier for them. I can't wait to meet their little Price or Princess (AKA Addie's New little Human) Happy New Year Everyone!

Warminster PA Maternity and Newborn Photographer

Very rarely do I get the chance to say that mother nature is really on my side, especially in the summer months. Often my summer sunset sessions are threatened by crazy thunderstorms, which we get so very often and randomly this time of year. Now, when a client has requested portraits in a large open field, the chance of a severe thunderstorm makes me a bit nervous, as we generally are the tallest things in the field at the top of the hill. This Maternity session was up in the air, up until about an hour before, when the weather service cleared the chance of a severe storm. I was so relieved that we didn't have to postpone till the following Saturday, and at the time little did I know their little lady was going to be making her big debut a bit earlier than originally expected. So Mother Nature really was on our side that day, because if we would have postponed they never would of gotten their maternity session. Also less than a week later the township mowed down the tall grass in the fields and made them into hay bales, I never see that coming! The Friday after we photographed the maternity session little Miss E arrived. This little lady is also a member of our studio Baby plan, so you will be seeing a lot more of her over the next year. This may be the first time that I get to share both a maternity and a newborn session in the same blog post with you. I hope you enjoy!

4 Big Reasons You Need to Schedule a Family Portrait Session Now! | Bucks County Family Photographer

WHY ARE FAMILY PORTRAITS SO IMPORTANT??

Richboro Child's Photographer WonderlandPortrait.com

Tell Your Story!

I recently surveyed my friends and clients about their experiences and opinions on photography. One of the questions in the survey asked if they had taken a photo with their child/family. I was pleasantly surprised to see that majority of those who completed the survey had in fact answered Yes to this question. My heart swelled at this information. You'll often hear me preach about the importance of photography, but I'm a photographer so DUH Of course I feel it's important! Through the survey though I found that so many of you also see this importance.

Now on the Flip-side I was also rather disappointed in some of the answers, one in particular hit home for me, the question was " As a woman I would invest in photos of myself to pass down to my Children. True or False". The result was about an even split ( actually 45% Yes and 55% No). Many have heard the story of why I set out at a young age to be a photographer. When I was about 11 years old a Family member lost her mother to Cancer, she only had one photo of her mother. In the Photo her mother was hiding behind someone else trying to avoid the camera, because "she hated to have her picture taken". Even at the age of 11 I felt this family member's sadness at the fact this was all she had left.

I make sure my husband and I have our Portraits Made at least Bi-annually. No we don't have kids yet, but I want to make sure they know the love that they came from when they finally do arrive. Once we have a child I will make our Family Portraits an annual occurrence. I know that might be a pipe dream right now, I know that life with kids gets crazy and busy. I know that money will be tight in those first few years, but I also know that the money spent on portraits will be an afterthought when I'm sending my son or daughter off to college. I know that I will miss the tiny baby curls after their first haircut, and the missing front teeth once the big kid teeth come in. I know I'll miss all these things about my kids when they have far surpassed these life stages, but what will my kids miss of me if I'm not in any of those pictures with them? Will they miss that time I had that really weird haircut when they were 3 years old? Will they miss the way that their chubby little baby legs wrap my waist as I hold them at a Year old? Will they know how important their father is to me now, before they were even here? No. They aren't going to remember these things, because they will be too young to remember these things. A photograph can remind them. A photograph can help them see. They'll be able to see who we are before, during and after them.

Newtown Family Photographer WonderlandPortrait.com

Your Children LOVE YOU!

Do you know the biggest reason moms give me for booking a family portrait session?

"I'm never in any of the pictures, it's always the baby/kids and my husband."

"I'm never in any of the pictures"

Just let that sink in a moment. I applaud these Mamas for realizing that they were missing and for doing something about it. I know I will be that mom. This may surprise some of you, knowing my husband is an amazing artist, but he refuses to learn how to use my SLR. Already the ratio of pictures of him is way higher than pictures of me. Now in all fairness he's more worried he will break it than actually refusing the knowledge, but still. So ladies I feel you, my scrapbooks are uneven too. Having someone else take the picture is the best way I can figure to show up in pictures in those first few years.

In the last year I've seen this article pop up in my Facebook timeline more than a few times. If you have never read it, it's basically about how much your child loves you in spite of the flaws mothers see physically in themselves. ( I warn you now you might cry reading it).

After moms tell me they are never in the pictures I tell them how a family session with Wonderland Portrait Boutique works. I always start off with the family shots then move on to each parent with the kids, the kids together and individually and then mom and dad together. 'Mom and Dad together' is probably the biggest objection I get for small family sessions "Oh we don't need that" "I'd rather the rest just be the kids". I don't know if people feel silly or what, but the Parents together is always a favorite shot during my extended family sessions. During these sessions generally Mom and Dad are now grandparents with older kids, it's the older "kids" (who are now parents themselves) that encourage their parents (grandmom and grandpop at this point) to get a photo together. So obviously it's important to the children that they have a nice photo of their parents. So when you say to me "we" don't need that, don't be surprised if I tell you, It's not for you, it's for the kids when they are older.

Family Portrait Photographer Newtown PA WonderlandPortrait.com

It's Good for your Kids!

The reasons to schedule an annual family portrait far out weigh capturing this moment in time.

There is also the fact that displaying family photos in your home improves your child's self esteem and gives them a sense of place and purpose. This past February Design Aglow posted an article to their blog on this very subject. Here are a few quotes:

“I think it is really important to show a family as a family unit. It is so helpful for children to see themselves as a valued and important part of that family unit."

Displaying photos prominently in the home sends the message that our family and those in it are important to one another, and we honor the memories we have experienced,

“It says we love you and care about you. You’re important.”  '

A LOT Changes in a Year!

The photos below are from two sessions, almost a full year apart. The Family session with the pink outfits is from May 2014 and the mommy and me session in teal is from this past June (2015). I looked at these together for the first time today, and this is a perfect example of how much changes in a year. Although dad isn't in the second session, because it was a special for mother's day, he came to the session, so I can tell you he looks pretty much the same, as does mom. Their Daughter though almost looks like a totally different kid. Look at the little sass and attitude she has now and THAT HAIR!! Seriously the cutest little personality, and so funny! Last year at around 1 she wasn't as responsive to me, which I'm not ashamed to admit, that is just how it goes some days. One year olds sometimes just don't care that I am there and on a mission to photograph them.  This year though she was my best pal, and posed. In just a year, actually 11 months, her personality has blossomed and really started to show to the point I was able to capture it in Photographs. Now lets not count out that first session. It really shows how she loved to interact with her parent at that age, which will be huge to her when she is going off to college.

Mr J. | Baby's 1st Year Plan Graduate | Newtown PA Baby Photographer

Funny story... I actually photographed this little guy's cousin last year for her first birthday, the same time I was working with Mr. J's mom to set up a first year plan for him.  I did think it was interesting that I had two clients with the same last name, but didn't think of it much further than that. Turned out they were in fact related and didn't even realize they were both using Wonderland Portrait Boutique. How's that for a coincidence?

Over the past year I've photographed this little guy from before birth all the way to this session that we photographed his first birthday portraits and cake smash. His big brother tagged along to this session so we popped him in for one or two shots as well. During the whole session, big brother knew that there was a cake waiting for the end and did not miss a chance to remind his mom and I how much he wanted some of that cake! The cake was absolutely gorgeous as well, it was custom made by the Birthday Boy's aunt. I was really impressed by the quality and the work put into it, because making beautiful cakes is not her full time profession (I know, can you believe that?)!

Mr. J did fantastic for his formal shots, not missing a chance to show off how well he is walking now either. It never seizes to amaze me how quickly they go from a newborn to a walking little person full of smiles and energy. It really feels like yesterday that we were photographing his newborn portraits. He was not shy when it came to the cake either, these boys are definitely fans of eating cake. Mr. J did stop and look at his mom with the expression of "Really? I can play with this and get messy? Are you sure Mom?", but as soon as she encouraged him to go ahead he dove right in and thoroughly enjoyed his birthday cake. Check out and enjoy the adorable-ness that is Baby J.

Mr. E is Three! |Superhero Birthday | Richboro PA Birthday Photographer

Some sessions I am reminded of the endless amount of energy kids possess, this was one of those sessions. Mr. E is fast, like a speeding bullet, and has an amazing superhero narrative in his head. Just like a superhero he was ready to help me at a seconds notice, and get into "disguise" to fight evil doers. I met him and his family at Tyler State Park in Newtown PA and at first he was really shy, but it did not take him too long to open up and start having a great time. I knew that mom was bringing along his favorite set of capes that his grandmom had sew for him and that he loved to wear them. We started off with some formal family photos and then let him have some fun with his costumes. He showed off some of his flying skills and his best Batman and Captain America Poses for me, then we were off to the field. I had brought along my favorite little red radio flyer tricycle that was just his size, and he loved it.

This has to be one of the favorite sessions I've photographed lately, I really love this age. While they can be crazy fast and change directions often, I love that they are so uninhibited. I love that a three year old will just show you who they are and be them self. He loved pretending that he was super when he put that cape on, and had no qualms about it.

There is no "perfect" picture when you are photographing children, but there is an honest picture. A picture that shows them, and who they are at this age, they may not be perfectly posed and that's ok. I mean really how often are two and three year olds actually sitting still in one spot? It's honestly a rarity that I get more than five minutes of being able to instruct them on what to do.  Mr. E did great with my suggestions on which game we should play next and that really let his personality shine. Through our interaction I was able to capture amazing action and personality.

Check out the great time he had during our Super Session at the Park.

Mr. H Turns One! | Yardley Birthday Photographer

A year really does go by incredibly quick when it comes to children and aging. I tell people this almost daily but, even I forget sometimes. When Mr. H's Mom emailed me to set up his first birthday session I thought for sure she must be a couple months early in planning, it couldn't of been a year since his Newborn session could it? You probably remember him, he is my little Rock and Roll baby from last May. He was so small for his newborn session we were able to put in in a snare drum. In fact I have the Guitar picture below on my studio wall in canvas, it's still one of my favorites. Rock and Roll Newborn Pictures Ideas Philadelphia Bucks County PA WonderlandPortrait.com

Yup. A lot has changed in a year as well, he hasn't just grown he's become very fast. We met up at a local garden in Bucks County PA to photograph some family photos as well as birthday portraits of just Mr. H. As always I started with the Family then him with just his Mom and one with just his Dad. Once he realized that he could walk around he really got comfortable and wanted to explore. We had the "formal" family shots out of the way, so we let him go and I captured some great little personality shots of him. By the end I was calling him "the man of many faces", because he has some great expressions. A few times I captured the image and had to take a moment to control my laughter, he had just the funniest expressions, and they only lasted for a second. The faces I captured are just golden. Mom and Dad are going to have great memories to share with him if he ever out grows this expressive face stage.  As you look through the photos below be prepared to giggle at the expressive faces of Mr.H. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Mommy & Me | Breastfeeding Portraits |

Since my friend Rhianna had her son back in November we've been talking about how she would love to do breastfeeding portraits. I have done a few in the past but the moms wanted to keep them private, which I totally understand and respect. Rhianna is probably one of the most open people I have ever met and told me I could post whatever I wanted. This was a really exciting session to plan. We had these photos planned for later in the week, but I stumbled across this amazing field of flowers while out on my daily walk in the park. I called her right away squealing and praying that she was available that night, since I had no idea how long they would last. Thankfully her schedule allowed some time that evening to get together. For something last minute it truly turned out Magical. When I photograph a mother feeding her child I always try to focus on the bond that they share, that is truly what breastfeeding portraits are all about. Now I know there are people out there who will dismiss this post as gross, weird or disgusting, but I REALLY beg to differ. I was breastfed as a baby and I hope with the grace of God my body allows me to do the same for my children one day. This is not a post to put down those who choose not to breastfeed or are unable to do so. I understand that not everyone's body allows it. I also understand in this crazy world we live in not everyone can invest the time and energy into such a time consuming and sometime frustrating process. Breastfeeding is hard, and it takes great dedication and determination.

This post is to help normalize breastfeeding. To the people who say that seeing a woman breastfeeding in public is gross, I say don't look, that issue belongs to you, she is doing nothing wrong. Every other culture around the world sees breastfeeding as a normal, natural process of a woman nurturing her child. For some strange reason here in the US women are shamed for it, I just don't understand our culture. Very often when photographing Newborns, moms cover up, as to not offend me or ask me if I mind that they breastfeed, my answer is always the same "If it doesn't bother you, it doesn't bother me." Then I proceed to hold a normal conversation with them while the baby nurses.  My dream is to see a country that women no longer have to ask permission to feed their child, where they aren't gawked at like a circus sideshow while their child nurses and most of all where people stop calling breastfeeding gross. This is the choice that these moms made, why can't we as a culture support that choice?

So this Mother's Day weekend let celebrate this. Let's make a conscious choice to support all moms in their decisions, whether it is to breastfeed or whether breastfeeding wasn't for her. Every Mom is fighting a hard battle everyday, these are choices they've agonized over. Just because I support Normalizing Breastfeeding does not mean that I do not support a mother who couldn't or chose not to breastfeed. Every woman's choice in this matter is her own and how dare anyone for shaming or prosecuting them for it. As the old saying goes "Mother knows best."

Toddlers & Cooperation. The never ending story.| Southampton PA Children's Photography

The Art of Cooperation | How to make your child cooperate for a Portrait. | Bucks County Children's Photographer | WWW.WonderlandPortrait.com

I recently posed a question to my Facebook followers.

"What’s the most overwhelming thing about having your photo taken?"

Majority of them stated, getting their children to cooperate. One of my long term clients wrote this: "Mine use to be child behavior, but now that you do my pictures it's so easy. Sometimes it's better just to walk away and let you do you thing. They always come out better that way!"

Now honestly I didn't pay her to write that (even though it sounds that way), but I am going to share the advice that I gave her many moons ago. This is one of my biggest tips, even though I have a ton, but I'm leading with the biggie.

Children are very sensitive beings, which I'm sure you know.  If you're happy, they get happy. If you're sad, they get sad.  If you're excited, they get excited. If your stressed , they get stressed. Let me repeat that last one again, for effect. If you're stressed, THEY GET STRESSED.

So lets touch on this one a little bit further. Mom's train of thought :: Oh My Goodness Bobby better sit still in one spot and listen to this photographer. He better smile. He better not embarrass me. What if he is rude? What if he just ignores her? I'm going to take away his iPad time if he's not good, I swear::  Or, well, something along those lines at least. So the day of your session arrives and now these thoughts have been rolling around in your head for a while, the scary fuzzy purple monster, known as stress, is growing. You can feel the anxiety expanding. You hit my studio doorway or our meeting place at the park and it's oozing from your pours. I can feel it and so can your child.

Let's first address what "good" means for a portrait session with Wonderland Portrait Boutique. For me, I want your child to be him or herself. Every kid has their own unique personality, and I want to see it. All normal rules go out the window during a session. For example a few weeks ago I told a child put their feet on my couch with shoes on! Eek! She looked at her mom for approval as I said "I'm sure this is a no no at home, but that is why I bought a faux Leather couch, I can wipe it down." Mom nodded at her with approval, she happily popped her feet up.  The only times I will really expect parents to correct a child is if they are doing something dangerous. If your two year old wiggles out of the pose I put him in, you don't need to correct them and threaten to take away their post session treat. That is just how a two year old is, and I know that I will have to continually put them back into a pose. When a kid is having a good time at a session they get silly and wiggly, it comes with the territory. On the opposite end are shy children. Shy kiddos generally just need a little bit of time to open up and get comfortable. With these children I find that I just need to speak softer to and play some silly games to gain their trust. All children go through stages, they just hit them at different times. I try to always be adaptable to each child's personality.

So now let's talk about that scary purple monster mom (or dad) has been carrying around for the last two weeks.  When it comes to children's photography you can't have any lofty expectations of Gap Ads. All the children on my website and facebook page are normal kids, I never work with professional models. All these children are showing off their own authentic personalities. I've learned that asking a bright bubbly child to pose with a serious face doesn't always work out. Same thing with a shy child, they aren't going to be comfortable being photographed in a very populated location. You know your child better than anyone. Who are they? Do they love books? Would they like to show off their action figure collection? What is it about Bobby that make him who he is?

Once my long term client (mentioned above), realized her son is just a little funny man she was ok with the silly banter between he and I.  He is allowed talk back to me during a session. Obviously, all parents want their kids to be respectful to adults, and he is, when we aren't shooting a session. When he's in front of my camera, he knows it's ok to call me a poopie head and he loves it, of course taking full advantage. Honestly, he makes me laugh so hard during sessions now, the things he comes up with are hilarious. That is him, that is his personality.

I am by no means a child psychologist, I've just seen a lot of kids in the last 12 years, and I've picked up on the trends. I've seen parents loose their cool way too often  and I've found most of the problem is the parent's expectation. Most folks are on Pinterest now and see these amazing fun poses and images. The thing that non photographers have to remember is you can't compare your everyday to someone else's highlight reel. That is exactly what Pinterest is, a Highlight reel, it's the best of the best. I'm not saying that Pinterest worthy sessions aren't a possibility, what I'm saying is that expecting to duplicate an exact pose and expression isn't always a realistic goal. Letting your kids be themselves is going to yield your best result.

Parents striving for a "perfect" portrait often stress themselves out, which the child feels and acts appropriately to something they feel is now scary. They want to grab mom or dad's leg or be held. Every one of those parents says to me "I don't know why he is acting this way, he's never done this before". It's that common, I honestly hear it often.   I don't want to come a across as I'm telling people how to parent their kids. I want my clients to have the best possible portraits.  I know what it takes to have a successful session and I realize that parents want this information.

A successful session starts with getting your child involved and excited. Since this post is already pretty long, I've decided to make this advice the subject of my next newsletter.  I'm going to send my top tips for a successful session directly to you. A Year in Reveiw | Bucks County PA Family Children Photographer

Well, here we are, New Years Eve. It's been 365 days of pure awesome for me. This year I have  photographed and documented some of the MOST important moments in so many lives. I've photographed more babies and maternity sessions in 2014  than I have any other year in the past. I've photographed more families portraits than you can shake a stick at in 2014. Oh and lets not forget all the birthdays! Basically it was a busy year for me. I had a blast too, I've gotten to work with some of the best people this year, and for that I am Thankful. When you work in the industry that I do, it's often the case that people just don't appreciate what it is that you do.  Not many folks get it. I am very happy to say that I haven't run into too many people who didn't get it in 2014. I've had the pleasure of working with a group of folks who believe in documenting their family's legacy and see the importance of the printed image. I think my favorite part about my job is that I don't JUST take pictures, I document the lives of others. The images that I create for my clients will live on the walls of their homes for generations to come.  Hundreds of their friends and family member will look at these images and they will smile. For me, that is the end goal to make someone smile. Knowing that my clients love the art that I have created for them, really makes it all worth it for me. Thank you to everyone who supported this little bitty business of mine in 2014 and allowed me the honor of documenting your family this year.  I wish you all an amazing 2015 and I hope to continue to see all of your little ones grow through the years.

Happy New Year!

The C Family| Fall Family in Bucks County | Newtown PA Family Photographer

I photographed the C Family a few weeks ago, I've been trying ever since to share this session with all of you. Right now I'm in the busiest season of the year, so unfortunately blog posts have been falling by the wayside while I push out big card orders and holiday gifts. I'm very happy to say that many folks booked early this year and I'm finally getting back into sharing all these great sessions with you. The day I photographed this family I was so very worried that it was going to be cold and windy, and it was actually one of the warmer late fall days that we had this year. We really lucked out with the weather, which was perfect since we had to walk for a little bit to get to one of my favorite spots in the park.  They were great fun, and this little lady is just full of personality.  Mom and Dad were great sports about my crazy ideas, which of course included throwing piles of leave in the air above their one year old who was in a super cute outfit. I'm glad they were because little lady loved the leaves and had a great time playing in them. I'm happy that I was able to achieve both traditional family shots as well as dreamy fairytale individuals of little miss. I just adore the few by the tree, the texture is amazing and the lashes on this little girl are to die for. It was very hard to narrow down this session to just a few to share, she did very well, even with all the distractions in the park. We did have to stop once to watch a big doggy walk by, but otherwise she is a little pro.

After we finished at the park, we headed back to the studio for some cake smash photos. I'll be posting part two of the sessions soon.

Wrightstown Fall Family Photographer

It's been a very busy few weeks at the studio. Christmas is upon us and it's not even Thanksgiving yet! Sadly in a blink of an eye, all the leaves are pretty much gone and we are expecting snow in the next few days, where did our gorgeous autumn go?  As a reminder of how amazing our fall here in Pennsylvania can be, I wanted to share this awesome, fun, family session from a couple weeks ago.  I honestly feel that these guys should be in a magazine, they are just gorgeous and were so fun to work with! This amazing big sister really lives up to her title, she could not get enough of holding and snuggling her little brother, and he really did not mind all the attention in the least bit. Waiting for baby #3 | Newtown Yardely PA Maternity Photographer

I had the honor of photographing this lovely family one evening this past week at Tyler State Park. They are expecting baby number 3 this upcoming September, and I can't wait to meet him. Their older two boys are just absolutely adorable and I had such fun playing with them during their photo session in the park.  As silly and fun as a one year old and six year old can be, I was glad I got a few minutes to capture Mom alone for a few beautiful pregnancy portraits of just her. We were so lucky that night, we had a beautiful sunset that served as the perfect background for the silhouette images I closed out the session  with.
